Misinformation about the differences of people can lead to non-acceptance, discrimination, and even violence. In order to better accommodate people across the entire sex and gender spectrum, these guides were created to help answer questions and outline appropriate and inappropriate behaviors.

Some general terms:

Sex – Refers to the biological sex of a person, based on the person’s sex organs and/or sex chromosomes.

Gender – Sex and gender have been equal for many generations, but these days Gender Identity and Gender Expression deal with how a person feels inside, and how the show themselves to the world, respectively.

Transgender – These individuals don’t identify as the sex they are born as, and therefore undergo procedures to transition to another sex. 

Intersex – Individuals who are not male or female, but share characteristics of both. 

Gender Non-Conforming (GNC) – People whose gender identity do not conform to standard definitions of masculine and feminine.
